The Portrush airshow is taking place this weekend Published Date: 03 September 2010
ALL eyes in Portrush will be turned to the skies today and tomorrow for the NI International Airshow.
The annual free show, which has become one of our most popular family attractions, looks set to attract over a quarter-of-a-million visitors this weekend, with the Spitfire, Messerschmitt and Dakota performing displays to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The Remembrance Parade and Poppy Drop on the beach will take place at 2pm on Sunday. Earlier this year, the event was grounded as the recession forced the local council to cancel the airshow. But thanks to the generosity of local businesses including Tesco, Coleraine Borough Council reversed their decision. This year's show will feature over 20 aerial displays including modern jets, the Red Arrows, and historic and privately-owned planes. Both piers at Portrush harbour will be closed to spectators. West Strand beach will remain closed until 7pm on each day, with West Bay closed to all traffic. Free parking is available at Dunluce Centre, Landsdowne Crescent, East Strand and along the Coast Road to Portstewart. Disabled parking is available at the Ballyreagh Golf Club car park
For more details, visit www.niinternationalairshow.co.uk or contact Coleraine Borough Council on 028 7034 7234.
